The primary focus will be placed on training officers how to deal with protesters and how to utilize different line formations and transitions to effectively control crowds. We train Officers to remain calm, maintain their situational awareness at all times and to think and react professional in stressful environments. Once these techniques are mastered our training will reduce liability to the department, minimize the use of other less lethal impact weapons and reduce injuries to officers.

The 2012 Republic National Convention was designated as a National Special Security Event held during the week of August 27, 2012, in Tampa, Florida at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Ultimate authority over law enforcement went to the Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security. The federal government provided $50 million for Convention security. Much of the money went to deputizing additional police. The city of Tampa expected large demonstrations, protests, and possible vandalism throughout the city. The city utilized a federal grant to increase its police force in preparation. Police Officers and Deputies along with the Florida State Troopers provided around the clock security for the city of Tampa during the week.
The Tampa Police Department along with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office began training Officers nine months prior to the event date. Officers were trained in effective crowd management tactics and riot control, utilizing the techniques taught by Tactical Shield Solutions.
